Newer Older Bungalow
Newer Older Bungalow is an invasive reconfiguration of a 1914 Craftsman in Southeast Portland Oregon completed in 2017. The completed house is 30% larger than the original, now 3,350 square feet spread over 3 levels with a detached 200 sf office. The project is located on a typical 50’ x 100’ level parcel in the Richmond neighborhood.
The design increases the area of glass and reorganizes interior rooms to bring natural light into every space and maximize openness. Many elements of the original house are left in place, however, the objective was a total transformation through a limited number of moves. Elements of the original that were retained include: foundation, basement, stair, 50% of the roof, numerous window headers, east and west exterior walls, two bathrooms, living room casework, and interior doors.
