Greenblack House is an energy efficient single-family residence in Boise Idaho completed in 2017. The house is 3,500 square feet on three levels, with a 1,250 square foot detached 3-car garage and ADU. The project is located on a 50’ x 182’ level parcel in the North End neighborhood parallel to Elm Grove Park.
The front facade is animated by shifted wall planes, a cantilevered window, and a deeply recessed front porch. The approach to the house, via the elevated porch, gives a glimpse of the detached garage and the unusual depth of the lot. The floor plan is stretched in the long direction to take advantage of the lot's rectangular porportions.
Greenblack House is built with super insulated walls, energy heel trusses, high performance glazing, and air tightness of 2 ach@50Pa. The house features banks of south facing glass, exposed concrete floors with radiant heating and cooling, and a hydraulically operated, fully glazed hangar door to create a 12 foot opening between the kitchen and patio.
